"I really want to work for a company that emphasizes and promotes sustainability; highest interest is in developing sustainable energy. "

What is your story? What doesn't your resume tell us about you?

I worked on a small, sustainable organic farm throughout high school, which initially attracted me to the environment and to sustainability in general. I have such a strong passion for preserving the environment because of this experience; it definitely has influenced my career aspirations.

Describe your dream job or career.

I would love to work in renewable energy, specifically in biofuels, focusing on cellulosic ethanol or algae biofuels. But a dream career would really be anything in the sustainable energy industry.

Tell us about your leadership experiences.

Last year, I was the Alumni Chair for Columbia's Society of Women Engineers, so I networked with alumni and planned events to bring alumni and current students together. This year, I am the Social Chair, so I facilitate bonding across the SWE board. Additionally, this past year, I was the Panhellenic Delegate for my sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, so I worked with the Panhellenic community and served on our Leaders' Council. I have also held two years of leadership positions on the board for Orchesis, Columbia's largest dance group.

Describe a personal experience that has directly or indirectly influenced your career path.

In high school I wrote two thesis papers, one on the Three Gorges Dam in China and the other on corn ethanol. Both topics opened my eyes to some serious problems in the renewable energy industry and influenced my desire to work in that industry to improve renewable energy.

What is the biggest take-away and/or favorite part of your GREEN Program experience?

It is impossible to choose a favorite part since it was so incredible, but I think my biggest take-away was that the world could be doing so much better with renewable energy and that Iceland really exemplifies goals that the rest of the world should be striving towards.

Tell us about your Capstone project experience and your journey, your team, the ideation and implementation.

My Capstone project focused on algae biofuels. My team worked really well together because we all had similar interests, but were also quite diverse and could each bring something unique to the group.
