"Don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo and think big. I believe there are a ton of opportunities to become a pioneer in your own way."
What's your story?
I’m pretty much a regular guy that enjoys trying new things and meeting new people. I’m outdoors whenever I can be and I was pretty involved during my collegiate years. This helped develop my obsession with becoming a better person each and every day.
Describe your dream job?
In my dream job, I would love to leave America and build agriculture systems (or find ways to bring water in) for any village or community that needs it. I love building things and water is something we take for granted. Innovative ideas are happening more and more and I want to be a part of that movement. I also want to be a part of a team that creates the next generation of turbine generator technology for wind and solar energy production and inspire other engineers to create innovative solutions of their own.
How has GREEN played a role in shaping your professional endeavors?
GREEN brought me out of my shell when I was on the Costa Rica trip and continued even more when I did the Leave No Trace program in Iceland. When you’re with this type of group, you learn how to effectively communicate with one another and share some really incredible ideas that you may have never tought of before. Because of this experience, I feel I’m a more effective when brainstorming with other engineers/nonengineers and remain open minded towards new concepts, which is critical in engineering!
My biggest takeaway from my GREEN program experiences (both in Costa Rica and Iceland) were the educational lessons and connections to real world issues where I could actually apply what I learned in class. There are so many opportunities to make a difference it’s a little overwhelming, but the projects that you do on the trip are a great way to get started and get your hands dirty at the same time. The people that went on the trip also made it unforgettable. GREEN attracts like-minded individuals and it’s amazing to form a tight bond with people that were complete strangers with you two days before!
"Because of GREEN I am undoubtedly more motivated to make a change in the world and understand the impact that just one person can have and I plan to keep this mentality for the rest of my life."
Tell us about your capstone project...
My capstone project in Costa Rica was conceptualizing honeycomb shades that would replace modern shades to help insulate homes more efficiently. The goal was to achieve as close to an adiabatic barrier as possible using a pocket (honeycomb) design that prevented heat from transferring through the shade.
What does #onlyontheGREENprogram mean to you?
#onlyontheGREENprogram means that the opportunities you’ll get from the GREEN program, professional, personal and adventure wise, are once in a life time experiences that you won’t experience anywhere else.
