Self-motivation is a key life skill and something that everybody interested in personal development should think very carefully about. Motivation pushes us to achieve our goals, feel more fulfilled, and improve our overall quality of life. People who are self-motivated tend to be more organized, have good time management skills, and often have more self-esteem and confidence.

Whether you have already tapped into your self-motivation or are looking to uncover it, understanding and developing your self-motivation can help you to take control of many other aspects of your life. Strong leaders know that leading by example is one of the most effective ways to motivate people. These leaders are typically treated with respect and fairness. The leaders who are self-motivated and disciplined often can lead by example with ease. They understand what goals need to be accomplished and how to get there.

Self-motivation doesn’t always come naturally to everyone. Even the best leaders need a jumpstart from time to time. You can generate improved self-motivation by working on goal-setting skills in conjunction with positive thinking, visualization of success and self-confidence.

The only person holding you back from reaching your true potential is you.

Part II Actionable Items:

The TED Talks we have selected for you will help you answers those initial questions either on how to uncover your self-motivation or how to re-energize it! The videos range from 15 – 22 minutes each. In total, this should take about 70 minutes.

The only person holding you back from reaching your true potential is you. Having a strong sense of who you are, where you want to go, and how to get there are essential tools that every adventurer needs in life.

An International Graduate Student Embraces Nepali Culture by Studying Abroad through Shine On Scholarship

On one hand, I believe that every student should be given a chance to study abroad at least once in their life, because it teaches us things that textbooks cannot: adaptability, resilience, curiosity, empathy, just to name a few. Whether good or bad, bursting our bubble and learning about our world will inspire us and open our minds. On the other hand, the people we interact with benefit from the diversity, because all of us bring unique perspectives to the table. Perhaps we share an idea that no one has thought of but could be key to solving a problem; we fuel the aspirations of someone who is facing similar difficulties; or help take down stereotypes.

How a Geologist Made His Sustainability Dream in Iceland a Reality through a Study Abroad Scholarship

My GREEN Program experience in Iceland wasn’t just about the adventures and cultural immersion, but about the education too. I thoroughly enjoyed the lectures because I saw how passionate the different lecturers were about their work and research which is truly inspiring.
